What types of SQL Server work do I do?

SQL Server is a very large product with many features. I know that there are many SQL Server gurus, but I don’t believe that any one person is an expert on all SQL Server functionality. Recently, a developer friend of mine asked the question to all her friends on Facebook: What do you tell your family when they ask what you do? My standard answer during my DBA days was “whatever needs done.” Now I just say that I am a database consultant and help companies with their data.

For those of you who would like more details because you may be interested in having me help you with your SQL Server, I have this answer: My specialty is query and index tuning. I also love to do ETL work with SSIS or create reports with SSRS. I have a knack for getting to know my customer’s data pretty quickly, and I communicate well with business users.

One of the cool things that I do for Linchpin People is the WellDBA™ Exam. This is a short engagement where a Linchpin People Teammate examines your SQL Server instance for best practices, health, and wellness. Which maintenance steps are you missing? How can a small settings change impact performance? We present an extensive report telling you how you can correct any deficiencies we find.

If you would like to hear more about the WellDBA™ Exam or what I can do for you, please fill out my contact form or contact Linchpin People.
